Team NiSCA Takes the Guesswork Out of Plastic Card Printer Cleaning and Maintenance
Somerset, NJ May 25, 2010—Team NiSCA, a global leader in the plastic card printer industry, today announced a new functionality for NiSCA’s 32 and 64-bit drivers that will help users maintain a smoothly running plastic card printer.
Two of the most asked questions regarding a plastic card printer are—How should the printer be cleaned and how often?
New messages in the NiSCA Status Monitor take the guess work out of when to clean the printer as well as when to replace the rollers.
When the cleaning count is within 100 cards of the next cleaning, the status monitor displays a YELLOW warning when the printer is idle. The message says, 'CLEAN ROLLERS'. (200 cards of the next replacement and message says, 'REPLACE ROLLERS')
When the cleaning count is within 25 cards of the next cleaning (or replacement), the status monitor displays a RED warning when the printer is idle. When the count hits 0, the status monitor continues showing the RED message but a message box is also displayed (as well as for the roller replacement). If the user presses Cancel, the dialog is closed and will reappear in 30 minutes.
The most important thing an end-user can do to ensure card print quality and the ongoing reliable operation of a NiSCA plastic card printer is to perform regular cleaning cycles to remove dust and debris from the print rollers. Plastic cards attract dust. Dust then gets ‘printed’ into the card surface causing unsightly blemishes and possible damage to the print head.
“Regular use of cleaning cards will keep your NiSCA printer clean and maintain important parts of the printer (print head, transport rollers and magnetic encoder station),” says Rob Miskelly, Business Manager of Team NiSCA. “Clean printers mean better image quality and longer lasting print heads.”
In addition, next cleaning/replacement counts now appear at the end of the list in the Printer Information dialog. And, after the cleaning is completed, the driver will auto-reset the ribbon count to zero.
